Spherity Joins the BatteryPass-Ready Ecosystem as a Supporting Partner

Dortmund, January 20, 2026 - Spherity has joined the BatteryPass-Ready ecosystem as a supporting partner, contributing to the practical implementation of the EU Battery Passport ahead of its mandatory introduction in February 2027. BatteryPass-Ready brings together leading research institutions, industry associations, and solution providers to accelerate industry readiness through a dedicated test environment for battery passports.

Batteries play a central role in Europe’s transition to sustainable energy. With the EU Battery Passport becoming mandatory in 2027, companies across the battery value chain will need to provide transparent and compliant lifecycle data - a major challenge, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Building on the earlier BatteryPass project, to which Spherity also contributed, BatteryPass-Ready helps address these challenges by offering a neutral, standards-based test environment. This allows companies to test and validate Digital Product Passport (DPP) solutions against key EU requirements, including data completeness, structure, format, and interoperability.

The consortium is led by the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology (IPK), together with acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering, GEFEG, and Technische Universität Berlin. It is further supported by major industry associations such as Bitkom, VDA (German Association of the Automotive Industry), VDMA (Mechanical Engineering Industry Association), and ZIV (German Bicycle Industry), alongside more than 80 additional supporting partners across the battery and digital product passport ecosystem.

As part of the supporting ecosystem, Spherity contributes its Digital Product Passport expertise, drawing on its experience from developing the VERA software. VERA supports interoperable, standards-based battery passport approaches and verifiable data exchange across organizational and technical boundaries.

“BatteryPass-Ready is a crucial step towards turning regulatory requirements into implementable and testable systems. We’re glad to contribute our practical Digital Product Passport expertise to help companies prepare with confidence,” says Ricky Thiermann, Head of Product Management at Spherity.

BatteryPass-Ready combines testing, guidance, and broad stakeholder engagement to support a secure and industry-ready EU Battery Passport ecosystem. Learn more about the consortium.
