Dortmund, 18. August, 2026 –Business and Technology Insights Company Gartner has positioned Spherity as the sole vendor in the "Pioneers" quadrant of its Emerging Market Quadrant for Digital Product Passport – Established Vendors. Gartner published the market report on July 6, 2026. For Spherity, this placement represents a milestone in the maturing Digital Product Passport (DPP) market, serving as an independent assessment of its technology roadmap and strategic positioning.

Digital Product Passports are rapidly becoming a foundational data infrastructure for product compliance across Europe. They aggregate essential information regarding a product’s origin, materials, sustainability footprint, and regulatory conformity. Depending on the product category, dynamic lifecycle data from usage, maintenance, or recycling is continuously integrated. The first mandatory regulatory rollout is the digital battery passport: under the EU Battery Regulation, it becomes mandatory for specific electric vehicle and industrial batteries starting February 18, 2027, accessible via a physical QR code on the battery casing. Additional product categories will follow under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).

From Product Passport to Trusted Infrastructure

Spherity initially focuses its DPP activities on the battery industry, a sector with exceptionally demanding requirements due to long lifecycles and highly complex supply chains. With VERA, Spherity provides a production-ready, field-tested platform for Digital Product Passports and battery passports. VERA consolidates product data, supplier attributes, and regulatory compliance models across sectors such as e-bikes, e-automotive, energy, and textiles, capturing lifecycle events while integrating seamlessly into existing enterprise environments.

Ensuring data trust and verification is central to this infrastructure. Spherity enforces an "identity-first" approach, ensuring product data can always be unambiguously linked back to an authorized, responsible organization. This guarantees verifiable data provenance and integrity: establishing which entity provided specific data, the regulatory context in which it was generated, and whether that organization holds the requisite permissions to submit, alter, or access the information. To achieve this, Spherity links product digital twins with granular role- and access-based governance as well as cryptographically secured verifiable credentials. This creates a trust layer where data remains reliable, auditable, and legally binding.

DPP Architecture Evolves Into a Cross-Industry Trust Layer

"We are extending this trust architecture across multiple adjacent sectors," explains Dr. Carsten Stöcker, Founder and CEO of Spherity. "This includes textiles, industrial equipment, steel, energy infrastructure, chemicals, and consumer goods. Long-term, we do not view the Digital Product Passport as an isolated compliance database. Rather, the underlying infrastructure supports diverse regulatory demands and operational business processes simultaneously." Existing enterprise systems, such as ERP, PLM, MES, or PIM—retain their core data governance functions while Spherity's DPP architecture adds a standardized, interoperable trust layer on top.

In our opinion, Spherity's positioning in the Gartner Emerging Market Quadrant arrives as Digital Product Passports transition from regulatory concepts into operational enterprise infrastructure. Manufacturers face an urgent need for efficient solutions that aggregate product data from fragmented sources and enable secure, permissioned data exchange across long product lifecycles. Spherity aligns its product roadmap to deliver these capabilities through a scalable, reusable infrastructure for verifiable product data and enterprise digital identities.
